A Touch of Joy – A Poem

A Touch of Joy - A Poem

Karen Prive

I was recently given ten minutes to write a poem. A Touch of Joy is not my best work, but I thought I’d share it here. Feel free to tell us about your touch of joy.

A Touch of Joy

Today I’m wearing special socks gifted by my niece.

They say, I love SPAM.

I mean, SPAM’s all right and all,

But I really love my niece.

*

I called Maddy one day and

She didn’t recognize my number.

She thought I was spam and blocked my call.

Since then, I’ve been Aunt Spam.

*

So I cut out coupons for

The famed meat-product

And send them to her with little love notes.

She buys me SPAM socks.

*

Joy can come from the weirdest things.

I needed a touch of SPAM today.

  1. There are a couple of chipmunks in our side yard. We can tell there are at least two because one is chunky and dark, the other delicate and light. Between them, they own the yard and anything in it, including the garage if the doors are open. Maybe even if the doors are closed – they are tiny and there could be access somewhere. We share nuts and fruits with them, which they only eat if they think we aren’t watching. But we are! All i have to do is see one of them, and I break into a grin and get all warm and fuzzy inside. They can thrill me for hours just scurrying here and there, living their chipmunk lives. Pure joy!

    1. Chippies are the best! I had one who would eat from my hand when I was a kid. Enjoy your furry friends!

  2. I love Spam! I love the poem!
joy was getting up early, opening the door, turning my my pretty patio lights on, admiring the pretty plants & sitting in the silence listening to nature.
Joy was receiving a spiritual book in the mail yesterday that’s hard to find from a girlfriend. I’ve really wanted this book but couldn’t find it! Was such joy receiving it & knowing she cared & I matter to her!
Joy was having dinner with a friend at a place we both like & in the course of our conversation, discovering we have the same issues with our friends named Mary! I’m not alone!
This morning opened my new book, turning to a random page & then another, what I going was the solutions to my shared Mary issues, then sharing! That’s joy!
I have a pulled muscle in my back so am taking it easy! No joy there! My cat Sophie decided since she couldn’t get me up to do her bidding, & the door wasn’t open enough for her, she took it upon herself to stand up on the door & push it open herself! The surprise on her face was priceless as the door swung open all the way & hit a chair. She kept looking for my reaction! She got a pat on the butt & her way! She’s a constant source of joy!
Joy is knowing I’m a child of God & His Grace is new every morning! Thank you, Lord! ❤️

  3. Absolutely adorable! Joy came from sharing a workshop (Spiritual Autobiographies) with my friends at Connections Peer Support. Pure joy witnessing their participation and stories!
